Windows XP, can't install to SATA.. iPod? Thursday evening, 5 May 2005
I've messed around with my windows installation, especially the services so much that i've decided it's time to re-build. The primary reason is that I've got a PowerBook now, and I can't connect to shared folders on windows, get some error message, and I can't RDC to it either. There's not really that much software I use on windows, just some obscure stuff on my OU course and the odd bit of video compression.
However I was sadly reminded that Windows XP Professional can't actually see SATA hard disks (at least on my setup), they're considered SCSI devices. No problem, you just feed it a driver from a network location or even a CD. Wrong, it'll only let you load drivers from a floppy disk! I mean, really. Any version of linux picks up my SATA drives straight away without even asking to look for them, what's the big deal with windows? The really funny thing is that it picked up my iPod mini I had left plugged in over USB and would have let me go ahead with installing windows on to that. I guess it's time to look for a floppy cable...
