Web Developer 1.01 Monday evening, 23 January 2006
The famous ‘web developer toolbar’ for Firefox and Mozilla has been updated lately. Boy, is this a cool update. I am so enamored with this free tool i thought i’d share a few new features that I like
Display Element Information
This feature gives you a quick overview of which ever element your cursor is over. This includes attributes, positioning, somestyling and it’s parents and children. This is useful for checking small edits to generated source code without doing a view-source and things like that.
Edit HTML
In combination with Edit CSS this is incredibly useful when you are asked to make small alteration to a website by someone that you don’t have the FTP details for. You can simply edit the html directly, save it as a file and email it to them.
View Document Outline
Don’t be guilty of writing an un-semantic mess of tags. Check your headings are in order with this feature.
Display Div Order
This is a bit like viewing the linearised version of the page without actually linearising it. As with all the other ‘Display...’ features you can use this at the same time as others, so you could display all of the class and id details along with the div order.
Also new as far as i can tell is :
- Better organised menus
- Colour Information
- Small Screen Rendering
- Line Guides
- Ruler
- Display Stack Level
- Display Object Information
All in all, it walks over the competition (IE Toolbar) works on any platform that supports Mozilla including Mac, Windows and Linux, plus it doesn’t cost a penny. So what are you waiting for?.
