My good little communist Friday morning, 2 December 2005

This evening instead of our usual Bible study at church, pastor Andy Ball from Netley Christian Fellowship here in Southampton came and spoke to us about the work he and his wife do in Ukraine. In particular how the gospel has gone forward since the the Iron Curtain fell in 1991.

The picture is of a badge that every child had to wear once they started school to show that they were supporters of the Communist party. Anyone that didn’t, such as children from christian families were ostracized, not being allowed many benefits such as a university education. Indeed during the Communist regime many Christians were imprisoned for their faith. If you would like to find out more about Ukraine and some of the evangelical ministry going on there then there is a page on the Slavic Community in Portland website.
